Im going to describe my plan, and if you expert RTC keepers could put in your two cents it would be GREATLY appreciated :)

First off, I just got him today and put him in my 110g with a breeding pair of JDs,tiger oscar, two convicts, and a small jag. I fed him a little peice of a hotdog because he wouldn't go up and eat the pellets. Then i read this sticky and some have said that hotdogs aren't that good for him, but then ive seen people who say they feed them anything even hambuger!! Is there a way to get him used to eating pellets? I also have some rosy reds in there for treats for my other guys, but he hasen't made one move for them either. Last is I live in miami, Florida and im building a 2500g pond in my yard. Im planning on moving him there when he outgrows my 110. I also plan on putting large peackock bass in there with him, and mabye a stingray, would this work and if not what else could i put in there? If anyone has anytips or suggestions on what i could do to make his life happier now or tips on how i could setup the pond to make his life happy in there it would be great. Thanks monster fish keepers!!

p.s his tail is grayish will it turn reder when he gets bigger, ive sen some big ones with not so red of a tail :(

Well he doesn't HAVE to eat pellets ;) Best foods for them are fish fillets, prawns & shrimp. Probably cheaper in the long run too for when they get bigger, mine especially loves tilapia. :D

Catfish are living garbage trucks. :grinno: He'll eat once he gets comfortable.

There aren't a lot of things you can keep with a full grown RTC, due to their enormous mouths and stocky bodies. They can eat something if it really strikes their fancy, even cichla and stingrays. For tank mates, I'd look into bulky things that get more than 4'. Like barramundi, other big catfish, like the zungaru, etc.

Cool info guys, thanks. Where do you buy fish fillets, shrimp, or prawns, and how cheap are they lol. Everyone feel free to keep elaborating :). I still wanna know if his tail will go from a gray red to a bright red. And is miami's weather good for a RTC to live outside?

Some photos?

Im not sure how to post pictures but if you go to my blog where i posted my RTC picture. I created the blog today so its kinda crapy but hey its a way you can check out a picture.

p.s On the blog theres a picture of a GIANT black pacu I caught. If you want to comment on that feel free ;)

nice pacu O.o my rtc eats shrimp right outta my hand idk what store you have down there but whatever general store carries them buy em lol as far fish fillet mine takes bonito, trout, and channel cat O.o lol bottom dwellers with a full grown rtc unless its a tsn prolly isnt a good idea mt rtc has already caught up to my albino silver tips and would prolly **** some **** up he is a beast

Thanks guys lol I new you'd like the pacu :).. Still wodering about his tail will it get a deeper red -.-
