Questions (I've read most of the threads pertaining to these questions, just looking for some more opinions):
1) I'm planning out my next tank for when the silver outgrows my 125 and I don't wanna take a step in between, like a 180, I want to get a tank that will be good for life. Is an 8x3x3 okay or should I go with a 10x4x3? Something in between/larger? The aro will be my biggest fish and I will also have a couple polys, a BGK, and a predatory catfish (largest possible one would be L. marmotus (longibarbus)...appx. 32" fully grown).

2) Is there something I can do to make it eat floating pellets besides starvation and is that good at it's size? It will happily eat freeze-dried krill, but spits out cichlid pellets. I haven't tried anything else.

Just keep up with the pellets and sooner or sooner he will stop spitting.. THough it would help if you fed less krill.. He will not starve if you feed one krill and then pellets... And after a couple days or so will start eating pellets readily..

If you main line the krill you are kicking yourself in the teeth.. Cut down on krill.

Also you could set your pellets in some water for 5 minutes making the texture more soft that would likely help ;)

Largest tank possible :) If you belive 10x4x3 is in your range then that would definately be MY choice :D Though the other would work for life :D

get the largest foot print possible, in other words give the arow room to turn as opposed to room to swim up and down.

starvation will give you the quickest results as far as switching the arow over to pellets. if you wanted to continue feeding him, then do a shrimp feed every 2-3 days with small pellet feeding in the days in between. just know that when you do give the arow an option of eating the "better" stuff, he will.

thanks for the quick replies. i havent feed it a whole krill yet. i used to get smaller freeze-dried krill and soak them for the last silver i had. i'll try that w/ the pellets and the other things you two have suggested. i've only had it for a few days, so i don't think it will be that hard to get it to eat the pellets. my poly and BGK won't eat pellets either (shrimp pellets), lol

Looks very nice, what store did ya get him from? Don't worry about what the next tank will be you've got some time to research and develop your own opinion.

thanks, it looks like it has pretty good colors. i got it from Mr. Aqua. they had that size, about 7" and about 10". they also had a few 12-13" jardini. Golden Fish had 2 silvers, also that were about 12". I havent made it to all the places near Denver, but they were the only ones that had any aro's.

Ya i was down there(Mr. Aquas) on Saturday also, saw they had those wild silvers. I was tempted to get one, but realization set in. Looks good.

my dream is to own a black, but i decided to go with a silver since i probably won't be able to upgrade by they time a 9" or so black would outgrow my 125. i may sell this one when i outgrows the 125 to put towards a black esp. if i need to save some more time, but i will probably get too attached. this one def has a lot more color and longer barbels than my old silver had. i only have plants in one half of the tank, so i only have the lights on one side and the BGK will stay in the dark section w/ the driftwood and the aro will stay in the lighted section.

i tried softening up the cichlid gold pellets before giving them to it, but they were still spit out. ill sit and stare for a long while and it wont eat them and i never see them sink, but i will look away for a little while and they will disappear. i'm not sure if it's eating them when i look away or if theyre sinking. i didnt feed it any krill tonight, just a few pellets.

golden fish had a really nice flowerhorn for a decent price (i think) that i was tempted to get even though i never really liked them, lol. they also had a TSN that i was somewhat tempted to get.

he looks nice.
both your tanks will work for life.
but i would give it the biggest tank possible.
just starve it.
it will eat.
