Well after looking at this site and face book I had the genius idea of a stand with the look of pallets.

I set out to make it simple so decided to make it to hold my spare 55 gallon.

The plans are drawn up...

Decidedly I went with treated spruce and ½ inch plywood for the frame work. Also used liquid nails in all joints just for added peace of mind.

After looking at it I decided to add 4 more cross members to the top and bottom box frame. Then the top.

OK now to skin it. I've seen tons of stuff on Facebook made with pallets and I really liked the look of the distressed wood so I picked up a few and tore them apart now to attach them.

I think it looks okay but to bring the grain out Im going to use golden pecan stain because its not too dark and also contains polyurethane so to help seal it from moisture.

OK while it dries for the next few days might as well do a weight test...I think it turned out great.

i'm not huge into pallet furniture, but this came out really cool. I would add a strip around the bottom so the feet don't show, but that's just person preference.

great idea ... nicely done:popcorn:

That turned out great. Just may have to do that for my wood trimmed 75 gallon I have sitting in my closet (I hate the particle wood stand it came with). I bet it costs way less than a new stand. How much did you spend on supplies?

Looks great if you don't plan on using canisters.

With a small 55 gallon I'll just run a couple of emperor 400s and as far as total price yes it was way cheaper...

This is what it took:
6 2x4x8s
1 2x4x10
1 ½ inch sheet of plywood
1 box of 200 3" counter set screws
1 box of 150 2¼" sheet rock screws
1 10 ounce tube of liquid nails
1 qt caramel pecan stain

Total cost $62.79 at my local Marvins

Hodgey modgey!!! That sounds way better than dropping $180-$300 on one new stand. With that that small price tag for supplies I could build two stands for the others I have sitting around. :D Thanks for sharing. *subscribed for future build because I'm sold*
