i just bought some new gear a Shakespeare Ugly Stik 6.5' meduim action, Shimano Syncopate 2500FG, and 8LB line. what do you think is this a good setup for a beginner?

Great for finesse fishing for bass, or light tackle carp(I would not use it where I fish for carp, 8lbs would snap within seconds), or trout etc etc. Great tackle for beginner overall. Can't go wrong with an ugly stick!

Ahh I see, Trilene are okay on my list. If I'd choose to go mono then I would depend on Maxima or Yozuri Hybrid a lot more than others. But to be honest, I'm not a big fan of mono. I only use mono as leaders, I'm a big fan of braided lines.
