im currently cycling a new 75 gal so i bought a texas cichlid to help cycle, i figured he was cheap and if i lost him no big deal..... but now i just love this lil guy he's about 2inch and just fun to watch. just to let you know hes doing great no problems at all. now i want to know what should i put in with him?:nilly:

Don't put anything in with him until the tank is fully cycled. Be sure and check your parameters often and change water accordingly. Once it is cylced, a pleco, or another smaller growing catfish (with hiding places for the catfish).

See why you shouldn't cycle with fish? :D Yeah, obviously don't add until it's cycled. Once it is, I'd highlight him as the centerpiece with some smaller fish. Maybe a few sd and some giant danios. Maybe a couple cats. Make him look good, you know, since you wasn't worried about killing him in the first place. :D

its not that i wanted to kill him i just needed a fish to hepp cycle the tank, i was thinking catfish of some sort i love the tigernose cat but i already learned that lesson the hard way. maybe a few pictus and some clown loaches

lol you bought a carpintus to cycle your 75 gallon?
lol i'd buy a carp. to live in my 75 gallon haha.

Do you have any other established tanks? If so, forget waiting forever to cycle by seeding from your existing filter. If it's your only tank, you can still instantly cycle by adding Marineland Bio-Spira. It's live bacteria culture in a bottle. You should be able to find it in the refrigerated section of your lfs. Or if your prefer, just do it the long way. :)

Isn't it funny how quick we can get attached to a fish? I mean from sacrificial lamb to fav. fish haha. GL with your tex he'll be quite the looker.

Don't get a Pleco like someone suggested. Get a small loach or a cat if anything.
