IN MY TANK
Hi

This my new sump that i have designed i hope it works:screwy: what do you guys think , all coments are welcome.

This is a 2chamber filter,

1st sec :
40cmx40cmx40cm
This is the dirty trap, this chamber also allows me to clean the entrie section with the mech filter wool is with out interfering with the boi side. The reason for this first chamber to be separate is that i only have 57cms of space in the tank stand for the filter, which does'nt allow me to put my hand in the sump and clean/take out the filter. Thats where this section comes in, it allows me to drain only this section with out touching the boi side, and then re-move it and clean it. Do you think i shud change this to a filter sock system?

2nd sec:
120cmx40x30cm
This is where all my boi material is, it has a drip tray, and is section out into cambers for bio material. My two return pumps are on the side.

I installed the sump on Sat this weekend and it is still cycling , my water is still a bit cloudy.

So what do you guys think?

Thanks it feels better to have approval from someone, what do think abt the filter sock idea?

I think it's good the way it is. If you want some mech, get a canister for solely that. Is there sand in that first chamber? If it is, how deep is it?

I use it. A 400 micron sock at the entrance to the sump, ie, the water passes through the sock into the sump.

It is great mechanical filtration, but you need to clean it very often, so it does not clogg.

I suggest, for the first section, if you can, put sand. A deep water sandbed can help bio filtration in a tank. Here's a link to some info.

So for the canister filter, I would stuff it full of filter floss, which will trap most or all of the small floating particles that might be present in the water column.

Nice looking setup though, for real.:headbang2

Like how the water flows into the filter chamber

Filter sock would be cool-- it would help polish your water. You can't really give a time on how often to clean, depends on your bioload, etc. Just check it often the first couple weeks so you can know how fast it gets dirty.
