I finally got some dovii. I've wanted one for a long time, but never had the tank space. I now am the proud owner of 4 approx 2" juveniles, from wild caught parents. I saw the parents, male was close to 17-18" and was fantastic looking (lots of red/purple on the body, greenish blue face and fins).

If you look closely, all 4 of these guys have a varying amount of red near their gill plate area. I don't think I have seen this on other juveniles, not sure where the color is coming from. It looks much more apparent in person than it does on these cell phone pics. I plan on letting them grow out a bit until I can sex them for sure, and then keeping the nicest male of the group.

good luck with them! Mine had blue along the gill plates at 3 inch and ended up being extremly blue, wonder if some with out could just bloom with color also?

Thanks! As far as I know, most of them don't have a whole lot of blue on them at smaller sizes. I would expect some blue to come in around 3", we'll see here soon I'm sure. There is one out of the group who has more green/blue on the top of his head and snout, but the rest are fairly color free aside from the red on their faces and the normal markings.

A side note, I had 16 1" convicts in there from one of my fry tanks last night before I put the dovii in there. I now have zero convicts in the tank. I came downstairs about 45 mins after putting them in there, and there was a single convict left. I actually saw two of the dovii hit him at the same time and demolish him. It was pretty impressive watching them do that even at this small of a size.
