Here's my new buddy. Of all places I "adopted" him from Petco. He was a surrender and knowing that Petco would have sold him to just anyone, I decided to make him part of the family where he'll be well taken care of. He'll be with his new ID Shark friends in a 150g grow out till the indoor pond goes in. He's somewhere around the 10" mark give or take a bit. Wasn't gonna stress him out for a good measurement. He is so strong and healthy. Hope I do right by him. I've never had one before and never appreciated them till I saw him swimming in open water and not just stuck to the glass like most 1" ones you see everywhere.

I was actually gonna pick one of these up from my job. A little one though but decided not to there not in the greatest of health. Your's does look nice though. Looks like it's Pterygoplichthys pardalis or P. disjunctivus. There cool fish at that size. Glad it got a good home to well call home.

Correct which are now also called a common pleco(Yes there are 3 called a common). The H. plecostomus is greenish-yellow with spots or stripes depending on it's mood

Thanks for giving me a heads up and names to Google.

Well you guys are both right, he is not a H. Placostomus :( bummer. He is still one of the common but between the other 2 I really can't be sure. Google says to count his rays to determine but so far he stays so hidden I have only seen his fin relaxed. Kinda disappointed he's not gonna reach the 2' I was hoping for. I almost wanna say he is the D. Placo bc he seems to ray more rays then the 5-8 to be the P. Placo. Guess it really doesn't matter. Thanks for your input, he's still a great fish.

Lol. Had to look and see where you were because "surrendered" a 10" and 12" to my local Petco yesterday. They came as a condition of getting a free tank and equipment. I just didn't have any room for the two plecos and 4 large goldfish.

Looks good!

You can tell a Pterygoplichthys pardalis or Pterygoplichthys disjunctivus from their belly. A Pterygoplichthys pardalis has a roundish type pattern where as a Pterygoplichthys disjunctivus has wavy lines.
