I just got this guy Tuesday night. If I turn the lights on or get my face really close to the tank he freaks out, so it has been impossible to get an accurate measurement. He already ended up on the floor once when I briefly removed the lid to siphon the bottom of the tank. So my best estimate on size is around 7". I'm keeping the water cooler in this tank, and after he settles in I will cut back on feeding so he won't outgrow the tank too quickly. By the way, the thermometer sticker on the tank is old. The water is actually around 71F. And yes, those are tiny baby Jack Dempseys in the tank with him. And yes again, he has 2 in his stomach. They are all very healthy and free of disease. I am gutloading them with massivore pellets because it is the only way to get any pellets into him. My goonch was completely uninterested in the JD's, so I threw them in here. I know that many of you are against live feeding, but this fish is a true predator and it is natural for it to hunt and kill its food. After it finishes off this batch, I will be feeding cut filets for a while. I'll do my best to keep this thread updated for those of you that are interested.IMG_0564.JPGIMG_0565.JPGIMG_0566.JPGIMG_0567.jpg

Love it! I've been eye balling some convict cichs my lfs has for starting up a breeder tank. They have like 40 in a tank that someone else had from a breeding pair for like $5 each and no one's buying them lol. Nice attu!!! Can't wait to see it full monster sized!

I thought about setting up a breeding tank, but between cost of heating, filtering, and feeding it wasn't really worth it for me. I'm really hoping it will comm with my goonch one day. I've seen at least two vids on youtube of this combo, but both fish were tiny. I have no idea how their behavior changes as they get larger. That would be such a scary tank to do work in haha.

Yeah you got two of the catfish species with the nastiest sets of chompers man!!!! lol. Honestly not sure which I'd rather be bitten by but I lean towards the goonch as it would probably make puncture wounds, but looking at pics of the attu teeth up close just makes me see chunks missing out of my arms lol.

I think I'm just an idiot with a desire to get hurt, but I want to try hand feeding this guy once he calms down a bit. I think it would be so impressive to see him snap up a piece of filet from my hand. I stopped hand feeding my alligator gar after he got me once. It left 5 or 6 deep puncture wounds. I now use an acrylic prong to put 16" between my fingers and its teeth.

Another idiot here who loves hand feeding his monster cat. Lol

I can't wait for the pic of this wound though! Will be impressive compared to your's from the vulture. Not that vulture catfish dont have impressive dentary lol. They just have a single row of sharp narrow blade like teeth. :)

I hope u have a back up plan in the near future. This 5 ft example has outgrown a lot of tanks in a a couple of years. It ate just about anything that fits its mouth. Nice fish btw, all the best =)
