I have kept Discus before so i know alittle about them, no expert by any means. I want to set another Discus tank soon. I'm interested in the Paneng Spotted Discus from Mayalsia. They are pretty expensive so I need to know what I'm doing this time around. I live in Denver where the PH runs about 7.5 so what I wanted to do was use 1/2 RO and 1/2 tap water with no additives just aged tap. I'm using a 90 gallon bare bottom tank with no rocks or real plants and I'm planning to get around 7 Discus right off the bat and not add anything else to the tank. Have I overlooked anything? Oh, and the tank has a Canister filter and I'll be adding sponges to the tank for extra filtration. Any suggestions? Thanks guys.

What size are they? If below 4 inches, consider barebottom setup for now to make maintenance easier as juveniles require plenty of feedings and water changes to avoid stunting.

The Discus I want are at 4 inches, heck I couldn't afford the bigger 1's. I'm probably going to do this for a x-mas present to myself lol.

Skip the r/o tap water mix....the pH from your tap will work just fine. It sounds like everything is in order. Just be sure to keep the temp warm and the water clean through frequent water changes.

Also, since you are wanting a heavily spotted fish just becareful that the fish you get are non-hormoned or are not artificially colored (carophyll pink, CR6, etc). Basically...if they fish looks too good for what it is, then it is colored in some way or another. Most spotted fish, even at 4" wont have the intense red coloration...spotting maybe, but the intense red coloration of those spots and body color would not be natural. If available, get them un-colored.
