What I have found is that if they were grownout together they will tolerate their own kind, if a new fish is added to the tank of its own species, they will fight.

Beautiful fish, how long did you have them for and how big did they get? I have 2 one is ~12" and the other about 7".

Sweet fish, I have one about 8". It's incredibly aggressive. I have a hard time housing it with any fish, it typically lives with my Fly River Turtle. I recently moved him in with my large CA cichlids, including 7" Red Devil, 10" Umbie and others. I watched it lunge out of its log and chomp the Umbie on the nose lol.

I had them for about 8yrs. they grew VERY SLOW, maybe 1-2in. a yr. they ended up getting about 15-17in. long yes there are VERY AGGRESSIVE, I kept them in a CA/SA cichlid community, the key to successfully housing them with tankmates is HIDING PLACES, (hence the big pot) they can dish it out but they cannot take it, I messed up when I removed the pot and just relyed souly on tangled driftwood and rock caves I left home for a few days and came home to 2 dead knives :( :(. I was trying different aquascaping as the pot took up a VERY LARGE portion of the tank.
