Don't treat. I'll need some more info to see where we can begin.

I'll just borrow GAB's diagnosis format to make it easier for you to lay out the details. Just copy and paste it in your new reply and then add the info as asked. Please be SPECIFIC so we will not have to ask further questions.

-Water Test Readings:
-Ammonia=
-NitrIte=
-NitrAte=
-pH=
-KH=
-GH=
-Water Temperature:
-Tank size=
-Filtration (Make, and GPH)
-Is there gravel/sand/rocks in the tank? If so how deep?
-Tank Inhabitants (How many, how big?):
-How long the tank has been set up:
-Frequency and amount of routine water changes:
-What you feed them, how much, & how often:
-City or well water:
-Water conditioner used:
-any extras (i.e.; air pumps, and air stones?)
-New fish or plants added to the tank? What type and when? Were they quarantined?:
-Medications used:
-Describe the problems you are seeing:
If you do not have a test kit yet, I suggest you get one now and conduct a test BEFORE you perform another water change once you have it so we can be sure of what exactly the water parameters are. API liquid test kit is best. I'd suggest avoiding the test strips so the results will be as accurate as possible.

The floaty issues have various causes:
1. Feeding floating foods. Flakes especially can contribute to the floaty issues. If you are feeding your fancy goldfish flakes, please stop it now. Even if you presoak flakes, flakes will still end up lacking the much needed nutrients therefore in essence, it is simply JUNK. The vitamins are easily destroyed once exposed to air and light which is another reason why flakes should be avoided at all costs especially with goldfish.

2. Starchy foods. Check the labels of your commercial foods. Be sure your fish foods do not contain mostly starch based ingredients especially if they hit the top ten slots of the ingredients list.

Goldfish do NOT have a stomach therefore they rely entirely on bacteria and enzymes to digest the food properly for them (although not effectively still). As a result, bacteria produce gas as they attempt to digest the bacteria. Since fancy goldfish often have mashed up organs as a result of their body shape, it makes expelling the air out of their gastrointestinal tract extremely difficult and when trapped, it does cause the fish to flip.

3. High nitrate. This is a good reason why we need to know your water parameters. High nitrate contribute to floaty issues.

Treating floaty issues vary depending on the causes.

1. Feed shrimps and peas to help purge the offending foods out of the system.

2. Avoid foods responsible for this issue completely.

3. Add acidophilus in their foods to help inhibit the bacteria from producing too much gas. You have to do this by including it directly in the gel foods. (If you don't know how to make gel foods, please check this link.)

4. Stick to fresh foods as much as possible. Even better, incorporate the use of gel foods in their diet. You have a choice to buy Mazuri gel food from Goldfish Utopia online. It's excellent even as exclusive food all around but I prefer to vary the foods and if possible, combine Mazuri with your homemade gel food ingredients.
