My Orino keeps puffing up

Is this normal?

Every time the Armatus comes close, my Orinos throat blows up and keeps it inflated till the Armatus swims by. Im just curious if it can cause harm to him in the long run (Example. Everytime Puffer fish puff up, it suppos shortens their life span).

He is just over 6" (maybe 6.5")

No...its just defending itself and trying to scare that other fish away. My orinos do that to each other.

Cool, thanks guys. Im a straight noob to Cichla... seen them and owned 2 before, but not long enough to know their charectors.
Plus, I plan to keep this guy for a while

no not at all, it wouldnt harm him at all, normal defensive behavior

I have 2-6.5" to 7" Orino's, and they flare their gills at each outher all the time.

Thanks guys. I noticed when i had him in my 50gl grow out, he was light colors and was showing some blue tint in his MoHawk and tail. Since he went in the 300 with the Armatus, he is a Dark Snakeskin color and with a Black MoHawk & Tail

Hopefully he will start showing his blue. He does Dominate the Geos, but not even close to the Armatus...lol He swims away so fast or flairs up, ready to bail...lol
