my oscar ate...

a 2.5 inch convict. i was moving my convicts out of my 29 gallon to make the 29 a salt water tank and while i was putting one of them in the 55 with the oscar the oscar took a liking to it. when i released it the oscar quickly swept it up. i can't figure out why my oscar wanted live food so bad that he would eat a convict but who knows. i feed him minows once a week. oh well. that's one less convict i have to worry about. as a side not my male convict has hit 3.5 inches and is still growing pretty fast. he seems happy in the 75 gallon.

Convicts are often used for feeders because they're cheap and extremely plentiful.

i know that. i have about 20 fry right now between the tanks and everything eats them. i just didn't think my oscar would eat my 2nd biggest one.

ummm ya they do that i had a 2.5" firemouth in my tank and it got killed by my 2.5" jag(cause i saw the jag beating it up). i leave for the night come back in the mourning and there was a firemouth floating at the top of my tank with its stomach eaten and a eye missing. i leave it in there to see whats pecking at for about an hour it its the oscar..... kinda crazy huh

yeah but he didn't eat that same one in the 2 months i had it in there before.

my science teacher can't get the convicts in class to stop breeding.

how big is the oscar? They grow about an inch a month so if he's still growing he's bigger now. If he's full grown than a 2.5" fish is a nice tasty snack with a 3.5" snack on the menu

Sometime moving fish resets their brain in some weird way. I used to have some fish where if you move decor or move them to a new tank, their personalities change.

I believe what that last guy said. I move around the decor in my tanks almost everytime I clean them, it keeps the fighting to a minimum because the fish dont have a territory like a rock or a cave because they get moved. I currently have 3 green terrors, one parrot , one tiger oscar, one red belly pacu, one marble cat, 2 bristlenose , and two reg pleco.
