Hi guys. My Oscar died yesterday...he was 2 years old, and I dont know why (perfect water params). I fed him (Hikari Bio-Gold), and 20 minutes later he starts jumping up into the hood about 5 times, and then just drops to the bottom of the tank and dies.

Anyway, I need to replace him and I'm looking for suggestions. I have a 55 Gallon tank, and I want something with personality, like the Oscars have. I have been thinking of getting another Oscar, or a Flowerhorn, if I could find one locally in Allentown. Anyone else have any recommendations?

Thanks,

Stavs

Get a flowerhorn there are nice ones at aquabid.com and a wild caught o sounds nice to a gt could be happy in a 55 for a long time.

a 55 is to small for anything the size of a Oscar.maybe set up a African chic lid tank.did you check your power cords if any in the tank?like heaters.... sounds like that fish was not vary comfortable in its home. maybe something throwing a electrical current thru the water?

Your options are wide, you might try a multiple fish tank it's up to you. But in all honesty I wouldn't put a fh in a 55g/

I would do this first as well, if for no other reason than for peace of mind.

A small group of Discus work great in a 55gal.

Dont have the patience for discus. :)

As for my equipment, everything looks in check. Everything is working properly, no cords in the tank. I'm thinking it may have been the temperature though...my Hydor in line heater has been actling flaky and hasnt been keeping a steady temp, but I've had a Ebo Jaeger in there as well for about 2 months, which works fine.
