so here's the story,a few nights I came home from a bonfire at my freinds house. I walk in my room and look in my oscars tank and the smaller of the two Oscars had been beat up pretty bad....there was lots of flesh ripped off his face. So i divided the two oscars and added salt, raised temp, and added anti fungal meds. he was looking alot better until tonight, i was watching TV and I hear a crash come from the tank turn on the light and there's the oscar with the side of his jaw/ lips ripped off....He must have rammed the divider or something i dont really know....So my question is should I just let him be and see how well it heals, or just put him down? it looks really bad....

Thats what i think im going to have to do....the other side of the face is just as bad.

We'll see how he's doing tomarrow...I don't want to jump the gun and put him down, but I don't want to have him be in extreme pain either, more comments are welcome!

I had a Salvini pair and the male practically ripped half the bottom lip off the female...I guess she wasn't ready to spawn again. Anyways...after a couple of weeks, it healed back up. I'd say give it some time.

Yeah. Imagine that all healed up. Not too bad. They don't really use their lips that often anyway. Melafix and clean water...and time. Watch for fungus, of course.

That will heal up no problem. The only thing you HAVE to do is keep the wounds from becoming infected. And keep the water changed extra. If it were my fish I would do daily water changes of around 40-50% and be treating the fish with jungle labs fungus treatment and some salt. Use the salt at 1tbs per 5g and the jungle labs at 1 tablet per 10g's. And only treat the water you are putting back in after the daily water change. I would do this in a hospital tank or tub if you can to lower any pressure from other fish. And make it easier to change water and treat. I would not offer any food for 2-3 days while first treating and then offer the fishes favorite food. If it does not want to eat, do not let the food set in the tank and foul the water. If it does not want to eat put a couple of live feeders in the tank and keep the lights off. The feeders will not foul the water like uneaten pellets. And they should stimulate him to eat sooner.----------------good luck and i have seen fish alot worse than this pull thru. Fish that are caught from lakes, get there lips ripped completely off all the time and they grow back with no problem.
