I have a 16" oscar that has hith. Ive checked the water quality, and its perfect. Its in a 90 gal. tank with a drip set-up 1gal/hr and a 1400gph pump running imto a wet/dry for a 300 gal tank. The water is crystal clear. I try to feed it a varied diet, but the oscar will not eat pellets or ciclid stics. I dont know why? Ive been feeding it feeder fish, along with ciclid omni-vegi flake formula- this is mostly for the smaller ciclids, but the oscar also eats it. I also through night crtawlers in there, and grubs occasionally. I try to at least once a week. During the summer I put leaches in once in a while. I dont know if thats good or not, but the oscar loves them. My question is what am I doing wrong? , Also does this hith clear up completely when its healed, or will there always be those pits in his head? I also raised the water temp up to 80` and added salt. Any other sugestions?????

do a 50% waterchange, add salt, and feed 1/2 the amount of food to your "O"....add veggie pellets to the deit as well.

ditch the feeders.. bad news.

Oscars will refuse pellets if there is something they like better.
I believe everyone will aggree that you need to starve him off those feeders and other treats until he accepts pellets.
Pellets just have all the stuff he needs.

He'll break eventually, dont let him be the boss. Then once you get him on pellets. Earthworms and other stuff is good to feed, but not every day so you dont end up with the same problem

BTW. Post a pic of this 16" bad ars. I wanna see him. Dont see them that big too often

ditto what haynchinook said also

Keep up the water changes

oh and HITH does clear up completely as long as the pits arent too deep to cause scarring.

Thanks for the advise. it would be great if I could get him on pellets. The feeder fish are just a pain, but thats all he seems to eat. I will try to starve him until he eats the pellets. Do I really need to do a 50% water change if I have a drip set-up? Im already replacing 30% of the water daily with that, and I use a python to clean the gravel, and the bottom at least once a week. The water is crystal clear. Im starting to think its the feeder fish causing the problem.
