Hi there, this is my first time posting here and I thought I'd share my tank.

I picked up my 90 from my lfs for only 40 dollars, guy said it was taking up too much room in the shop. Of course at $40, I was skeptical. However, I bought it, took it home, and it held water :). It is constructed with 1/2" glass, but I'm not sure of the brand.

My original plan for the tank was a community of small cichlids and a nice planted tank. However those plans changed.
My buddy has a job where he goes into foreclosed buildings to clean them out when people are evicted. I had my tank all cycled and ready to go pick up my new stock, when said friend called me and said he found some cool looking fish in a fish tank, and if I wanted them I could take them.
I was bored, so I went to check out the fish, and I was shocked. There were 2 Oscars in a 55, one about 7" and one about 4". There was only about 5 inches of water in the tank, and it was extremely dirty. Someone had left them there to die.
Of course, I couldn't leave them there so I took them home and immediately put them in my aquarium (now I know better) but I am happy to say that they are alive and have been in my possession for about 5 months.

I am running a penguin 350 (was on my previous 29g) and an ac110, however I cannot get my water to be really crystal clear. The driftwood is a newer addition, and the tannins are making it brown but there is also a haziness I cannot get rid of.
Trates, trites and ammonia 0, I even did a 50% water change today and it did not solve the problem.

Any Help?

Ok, I'm not sure whats wrong but my internet connection is not letting me upload anything, ill try and get this fixed tomorrow.

Also, I do not feel that my aquaclear is running at full potential, it doesnt seem to do the mech filtration I thought it would. I'm needing to vacuum 2x a week.
I was thinking of either ditching the hob's and running an fx5 or trying out a powerhead to move the debris around to be sucked up?

Sponge and bio rings that were included running on the 110, and the regular filters on the 350. That's kinda my dilemma, I kinda got them on a whim and wasn't totally prepared for how messy these things are. I feel like its not adequate.

finally I can edit my posts... Since I have had them for a while and like the fact that I rescued em, I wanna keep em. I just need some direction on where to go.

thats a pretty red oscar. Im glad you saved them, the haziness may be coming from stuff in the gravel, depending on what you feed the fish, the waste may be breaking down and getting into your gravel, I have one oscar and had an issue with all of the poop as well so now the tank is barebottom and it helps a lot, knowing that I got 100% of the waste out of the tank during a WC. If you dont get any stronger filtration, this may be a good option for you.

I got the gravel from petco, cheap river rock. Im considering changing it, but I think I'm going to ditch the penguin and get a canister before I switch it out.
I'd like to keep something natural looking, although its a work in progress.

I have 4 oscars all about 8" right now. I love the sand substrate, it vacumes well, and looks good. But I dictum a dump too. Maybe one of those changes would help you.

The AC110 and Penguin you have are not enough to keep up with those two oscars to be honest. I would run dual AC110's (one set up bio, the other mechanical with 2 sponges) and run a xp3 or even one of the SunSun's or CF500's if money is tighter which are canister filters. An FX5 would work also if money is not an issue. Another thing that might help is to get some dithers like silver dollars to eat up the left over food left by the oscars when it escapes from the gills. I believe the issue is that your current filters are not able to keep up with the food that is being left behind by the oscars and you might want to put a powerhead in the bottom back sides and angled to keep the current going around the bottom of the tank to keep the food/dirt off the bottom and making it hit the filter intakes.

Just a few ideals to help :)
