This is my 75 gallon tank with my 7" Oscar. I am going to get him some friends soon. What kind of tank mates do you think would work for him? He seems lonely at times.
So tell me what you think? (:

have mine in with JD's and plecos in my 125g. In my experience oscars vary pretty widely in temperament. My Current 14" red oscar is the master of the tank and I had to plan accordingly when adding tank mates. I also had a leucistic (not albino) female red oscar (they were a pair, sadly she passed 2 years ago) and she'd run away from anything. I used to breed feeder mollies for them, I once saw her (at 12") run away from a 2.5" mollie... It was a sailfin male but still.

So you'll have to figure out stock based on temperament. If it's aggressive or skiddish, any other aggressive fish will be a bad combo (red devil, green terror, etc). Plus keep size in mind, if you get too small a tankmate your oscar will eat it.

the above is a good guideline but personally My current Red Oscar ate the convicts when I tried that...so I don't quite agree with them as 5 star tankmates lol. (though if your oscar has never had feeders you might find different results)

I know plenty of people keep Oscars alone in 75 gallons all the time. If I was in your shoes I would get a Pleco or maybe an Upside Down Catfish for cleaning up the bottom. I have a Sail fin Pleco and just love him.
