I noticed that once in a while my oscar will sorta just float in place for a second and like vibrate for a few seconds. It's most noticeable when you look at the tail and the back of the dorsal and anal fins. It's not a really extremely violent tremor or anything, you wouldn't be able to see it if you weren't looking closely.

I was just wondering if this was normal. It's about 6-6.5" if that matters.

my 12" oscar does that sometimes. Nothing to be alarmed about, I think it's some kind of behavior when there close to the surface. I have seen mine do that to pushed the sand slightly and lay on it. If it's serioulsy bad and looks like your fish is out of control then it may be something worse. If its just a little twitch its nothing just some kind of behaviour

If a fish is shaking in place for an extended period of a time, it usually means it is sick. Oscars do do the shake every once in a while though.

IME, oscars do that when they're pissed off, whether a tankmate is bugging them or they really hate you cleaning their tank. It's also part of the courting ritual which is very commonly mistaken for the "my tank is too small" dance.

mine do this when they get to close to eachother.

i have an albino that twitches when he decides to scoop up any gravel, he's done it since he was a baby, 11 1/2 inches now...maybe he just gets excited? lol

My nephew came running up to the fish tank with a plastic sword in his hand the other day and both of my Oscars did it. It was pritty funny.
