So i just rescued an oscar that i found on craigslist. he has pretty bad hith, but ive put salt in the tank and upped the temp to around 82, so that should be helping him out, but he just hangs around the bottom of the tank in one of the corners. im not sure if he is just bored in there or what. if him being bored is the case, is there anything i can put in there to entertain him i guess?

if you just got him, dont worry. it is very common for an oscar to sulk and be pissed off during a move or anything for that matter. its not uncommon for them to just stay in one place. drift sideways, and overall just seem to act strange. its one of the more charming personality traits of the oscar.

just give him a few days in your new tank, and as long as your water is nice and clean, and he has ample room, he'll start coming around. try offering some bloodworms, earthworms or live ghost shrimp. their usually sure-fire ways to make an oscar happy and start eating if he's not right now.

Nice save. HITH is a nasty taboo among oscar owners i personally cringe at the sight of it.

Like the others said, just give him time. Don't spend money on HITH head meds or MelaFix, etc. Just keep your nitrates super low (below 10 ppm) while he's healing. Some shrimp soaked in Vita Chem 3-4 days a week would be good, too.

lots of good advice so far....give him some time to settle...oscars are notorious for being moody and sulking any time their environment changes. He will come around though. Keep up on the water changes to help out with the HITH and he should be much more active in a week or so. :)

Again, shrimp contains thiaminase and has been associated with causing hole-in-the-head. Don't feed shrimp more than once per week as a treat.
