 My oscar doesn't like water changes..
he has became very friendly and eats from my hand..
but he still hates water changes?
i do a deep w/c
i take out everything... and put syphon deep.. to get all junk out..
BUT this time something really stange happened.

while i was water changing i dicided to net some poop out first..
THEN I HEARD this sound of the sand going in a syclone..
and i thought he jumped out..
(he was nowhere to be seen)
then i was scooping through the gravel and there he was BAM!~
back out..
i cant really explain.. but id say he did a sting ray thing.. and then popped out?
is this really bad~~
and do you get what i mean?

Very odd to burry himself if thats what you mean. Mine will sometimes lay on his side, very submissive. But will launch with no warning if i get to close. No hand feeeding, he only sees the food, fingers included.

Wow, he must really be terrified of the thing. My fish do nothing but beat the gravel cleaner's face in. You might want to think about taking him out of the tank during those thorough water changes. It may just be a bit less stressful to him.

Might also help to leave the syphon in a place he can always see it. This might freak him out at first but he should get used to it being around.

SIC AVITAR LUKEE, GOOD IDEAS, MIGHT TRY LEAVING SYPHON IN A SHORT TIME BEFORE A CHANGE, MYSELF, SAY A COUPLE OF HOURS.
PICS ARE GOOD!!!!!!!!!!

thanks for all ideas...
i might take him out during it..
is a 10litre bucket enough?
or would that be more stressful?
approx... 2.5 gals??

I wouldn't remove him during the water change, he'll be really stressed out from that.

You mentioned taking everything out of the tank while cleaning. I think this adds to his stress. All he sees is the syphon and him alone in the tank. Maybe you could do sections of the tank on different days. At least this way his surroundings won't be all different and may help him calm down.

Good luck.

maybe ill just keep the syphon in for a few days...
hes got a gibbicept in there to..
but i kinda feel bad cause hes in a 35gal..
but its pretty huge for him at the moment but when he gets bigger..
the tank might be a bit larger than 35gal..
i dont have measurments on me(holiday house)

ive never had a problem with fish and water changes...another thing u could try is to get a good length og hose and attach it to a powerhead...drains twice as quick..do u have a proper syphon with a marble and spring?? if so the spring noise can get to sum fish..
