My Oscars/Crassipinnis built a fence around their nest

Never saw this before, so I thought to put it here to share.

This morning the twigs were all still laying on a pile in the corner, so I don't think this was accidental.

Sorry for having to photograph at this angle, but with my lighting the glas turns into a mirror.

That is a very cool observation!
Post spawn and before the next, pull the sticks
Then perhaps with some additional sticks
And at the beginning of the next spawn, add all the sticks
See if they do it again
And hopefully catch the behavior on video
I would love to see that

I've had oscars rearrange but this is cool!

They now attack me against the glas when I get to close.

The Cichla that used to bully them don't even venture into their side of the tank anymore. I am not looking forward to their prespawn if their aggression cranks up this much aswell.

The tube of the female starts to get visible, but I am afraid I will miss the spawning since I will go on holyday soon.

Sadly I will leave for two weeks tomorrow, I dont think the cichla will have left any by them.

The Oscars also destroyed every bit of plants the young could have hidden in.

Man, those are awesome looking fish. I’ve had some build nests with random stuff, but never fenced off their area. That’s pretty cool.
