They are not very good parents at all. They are likely eating the eggs. Often times with Oscars you need to be quick on taking the eggs and raising them yourself. A lot of times they don't make it past laying them.

Wrong. Apparently, you haven't seen a pair of oscars defending their eggs. You can almost always trust them with their babies, but you can still seperate the eggs if you want.

Like mostlycichlids said, your 55g is way too small for them to breed. Also, they shouldn't be with other tankmates at all. Good luck, I'd love to see baby oscar pics if you get any.

I agree when my 2 oscars spawned in my 240 all the other fish were on the other side of the tank and in the tank ive got a managuense freadristalki mota red and gren terrors and many more so. I dont think its that they are bad parents but ive noticed when i breed fish the more times theyve breed the more fry survive to grow up. its just a trial and error process

Let me clarify...I meant the first couple of times. Ive had a couple of pairs of oscars over the years and the the first two or three spawns were very unsuccessful. After they got the hang of it it was all good!
