My Oscars!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Names seem fitting lol
Beautiful pair! Did you intentionally pair them, or just get lucky with 2 random oscars?
I usually prefer the black to the albino/lutino, but both of yours are amazing!

Yeah, I’ve heard they aren’t easy to get paired, or even laying. Pretty cool you did that even if there aren’t any fry. If you want fry I believe you are supposed to try to simulate Amazon rainy season.

Deadeye Deadeye I have tried
1. More frequent water changes
2. cooler water
3. Sprinkling them with a watering can ( family thinks Im crazy cause I water m fish lol)
I even tried hooking up a drip system
It might just be my hard water Idk if that would effect the eggs though

Try letting the water drain naturally over time. This helps to simulate the dry season just before the rainy season comes. I do this with my angelfish and it tends to help get em in the mood. Same with feeding live or frozen foods, this can also help jump start the breeding process as the adults now see that there is an abundance in small food sources for their fry to eat. This also coincides with that start of the rainy season as food is most abundant during this time of year.

Lol there's allot of different factors that can make or break a successful spawn. The main thing is to just try to keep water parameters stable, other then that there's plenty of tips and tricks to help get em goin.

Magnus_Bane Magnus_Bane what do you mean by Drain naturally? like let it evaporate? or have it constantly siphoning out of a airline tube? also they always lay after a wc and it looks like the male is fertilizing them you can see in one of the videos I posted but I never get fry. Will try some of those tricks though I have plenty of frozen foods lol from trying to get my ctenopoma to eat and from trying to find something the oscars like other than pellets (They are really picky lol)

Yeah I let my water evaporate till it's only ⅔s full and then I'll top it off before doing a 20-30% water change. This gives em a sense that the dry season is now over and that the rainy season has just begun. Same with feeding frozen and live foods. Even if they don't eat any of it, it atleast let's em know that their potential fry would have a stable food source to grow up on.

Lol personally I never had problems with picky Oscars as mine acted like trash compactors in the sense that they would continuously eat anything ya gave em. Lol mine even liked potato olés from taco john's. Don't try at home kids lol.
