Looks like it is eating a frog.
Those things have one of the most painful bites in the world and they are all over in Hawaii. I'm intrigued to catch one and keep it as well.

Not true. For this species at least. And yeah you should. California has a few native pedes - Scolopendra heros and Scolopendra polymorpha for example. Pedes are awesome!
