I once thought it would be a good idea to install a drain hose in the bottom of one of my rotating biofilter tanks in case I need to clean the bottom and drain some of the water off. I coiled the hose and attached it to the side of the RBC tank with a zip tie. After after four months unbeknownst to me the zip tied I used was defective, slipped, and the hose unfurled and draine the RBC and fish tank onto my basement floor. 200 plus yellow perch lay dead in the bottom of the fish tank the next morning.
Now do I not only not do coil the drain hose for my two RA systems but I also have a shutoff valve in any of my drain hoses and a end cap on the end of the drain hoses.
