New arrivals yesterday. 1m and 1fm Potamotrygon hystrix, both are WC from Rio Negro in Brazil. They are around 6", with the male being slightly larger than the female.
I plan on breeding them when they are older.

They arrived in good condition, but seem a little laid back, which is normal.

I haven't tried feeding yet, but I will try tonight.

Here you can see the male, female is in the background.

They both look quite thin,
Are they feeding?
If they're not feeding I'd keep the lights off on the tank until they are feeding, make sure they have been treated for internal parasites as they are wild caught. If the supplier didn't treat them then you really need to do so. They look like nice specimens, be a shame to lose them.

They have been treated for parasites.
They are not feeding yet, they were only eating live crayfish at the LFS. I tried some shrimps today with no luck, not even the slight interest. I will keep the lights off, thanks for the advice.

Earth worms and blackworms are great for getting rays to eat. Seeing the movement stirs them to eat it more readily in my experience.

Yes I know, I have used eaethworms before to train rays. Only problem is that the ground is frozen solid here in Iceland. There's only one place I know here in town that might have earthworms, a fishing store.

Also I have a couple of questions, I haven't managed to find much info about growth rate except for that they are slow growers.
I know growth rates vary and factors like feeding, filtration and tank size play a large factor. But how large should I expect them to be in a year (estimated)? Also do they take longer to reach sexual maturity than other rays because of the slow growth rate?
