I've kept fish for quite a while... but this just doesn't make much sense. She'll get a swimming start and then dart sideways along the bottom (I've also noticed that 90% of the time its on her right side) and then just sort of loop up the side and right her self again. Then she'll just repeat the process again and again for a couple of minutes, and then she'll stop doing it for a while. And she doesn't do at it night when all the lights are off.

At first I thought it might be ich, but there isn't anything wrong with her scales or the slime coat or ANYTHING. Besides, there is an Ompok bimaculatis in there with her, and being a catfish I've noticed they get ich FAST. No slime coming off or ANYTHING.

Is she just being playful? Or do fish get itches? Or is it actually a skin problem.

Ah! Stuff like this drives me crazy! :nilly:

Hmm Im not so good with Pacus but I have kept a few awhile back, but never heard or seen this with any of mines or anyones. Did yu check the water parameters? Should do a water change and see if it continues. It may be played but I don't really see a pacu swimming on the right side being playful. Do yu see it rubbing on the substrate? Maybe a possible parasite infecting it internally?

well In my opinion, i think all is well maybe your just over worried, if the pacu is under 6 inches they do tend to play around alot pacus are big fish that do swim wierd sometimes, if rubing against substrate way way to often that could be a parasite, but an occasional brush against the subtrate doesnt sound to out of the ordinary

ive never kept pacus long term,so i wouldnt know if its part of theyre behavior.
but many fish do that for several reason.
marking territory, showing off,and then theres diseases.
my tems do this when theyre sparring.
my pikes do this when someone gets too close to their territory.
even my blind acara does it when he thinks someone is near.

Don't know what the problem is but mine has never done that in over a year.
