So I bought 2 of these guys at the exact same time and they were the same size and pretty much looked identical. Now one is slowly getting bigger and more colorful. The smaller of the two is hiding all the time and he turns a dark color (pretty sickly looking) does anyone know why this could be? They don't fight or anything and no one picks on them. I included a picture of the healthy one. The other one is really skittish.

Holy mackral thats a nice looking p bass.... I had a pair of bass do the same thing. Sometimes there just a little skittish when you first get them. Im sure that the smaller one will start to come out sooner or later :)

Thank you very much for the compliment. I am amazed at how colorful this guy is turning out! I can't wait till they get bigger!

So, you think they need to be in a school? I got two instead of one thinking that a pair would be okay? The strange thing is they don't fight at all, so it's not a issue of stealing food. They smaller one follows the bigger one around like a lost puppy and always allows the bigger one to eat first. It's cute but kind of strange for cichla at the same time, dont ya think?

I included a picture so you can kind of see what I mean. They looked almost identical when I got them.

No, it isn't just the picture. That is how it really looks :( That is another thing that is worrying me. I thought it was because he was malnurished a little bit? Anyone have any input on this?
