I`ve had these guys for around 6 months now and they are great, every so many weeks they will set up site and attempt to breed. obviously the eggs fungus over but they don`t really disrupt the aquarium in any way, theyre in a 120g so they have plenty of room.
The female is VERY orange/pink, even more so when they want to breed. she would make a great addition to a breeding project.

and here is the male, people on here told me that he would turn completely orange soon after I got him, but he has consistently kept blue and yellow spotted fins. he also has a pink colored neck like what you would see on a Synspilum. very unique looking BP.

and here they are together

I originally hoped a female would pair up with this guy, but he has no interest in anyone

I hope you guys like my fish

thanks, I think the male must be pretty paratheraps heavy genetically.

Nice parrots mate. They do lose the spots on the fins as they get bigger which is a shame. I've actually bred Bp to the short body pink con as you are trying. You are not really missing much, they come out as mutant looking convicts. I did know a guy who got a fader out of this paring and he ended up with a big chunky orange convict looking fish.

Yeah I grabbed the con at the same time just hoping I could maybe get some kind of orange convict, it was just an idea but he dosn`t seem to be interested in anything. I wouldn`t be apposed to him pairing with my new carpintis, I think it may be a female. I have a 10g I could set up for any fry to grow out but none of my fish have actually reared succesful fry yet.

I`m not attempting to breed hybrids specifically but I wouldn`t mind a breeding project, I just chose parrots because they are one of my favorite fish and the only way to get fry would be with another male fish, at least the convict would share the round gene, that was my thinking anyway haha

I say go for it with the parrot x con man. I kinda want to try it again. Con x carpintis are just ugly but the parrot cons at least were pretty unique. Look in the hybrid example thread for pics of mine and the orange con. If you isolate your short con with your female parrot, he may show more interest. Mine was the complete opposite. He was obsessed with the female parrot even though she only had eyes for her mate. In the end he nipped in when they were breeding and fertilised the eggs. I pulled them hoping they were fertile and about a third of them hatched.
