My pbass won't eat anything that doesn't move. This includes dry krills, pellets, beefhearts, and most live or frozen worms. His diet is mostly guppies, goldfish, mollies, or whatever small community fish i put in there... Is there a way I can train it to eat less expensive food? Can they starve themselves to death rather then eat "cheap" foods?

They're probably not going to starve themselves to death, but they can become unhealthy due to low nutrition and more susceptible to death from other things. There is a sticky on how to train away from live foods.

i've witnessed a pbass starve himself to death.

pbass are picky eaters, you have to train them to accept foods that hit the surface by using maybe krikets. after he gets used to smashing at the surface for his foods, you can offer different kinds until he possibly takes it.

i've offered pellets to mine since they were 1.5" and haven't had any issues since

I've never had trained a pbass to smash anything that hits the surface. But all of my pbass will hit fish filet and shrimp and it just slowly floats to the bottom. I do have one pbass that smashes anything on the surface, but I didn't train him to do it. And I have never had a pbass that I thought died for the sole reason of not eating.

oh, just a 4 inch bass. It doesn't even hit the surface. Kind of just looks around, and only eats when the live food swims right in front of his face. Pretty damn picky...

4" IN my opinion. I would keep on live fish for another month or two :) But hey I'm a purist or Nazi what ever you prefer :)

And if you are having problems with them eating./. Well the thread that blacktip posted is the ticket :) But you must have patience :)

TRY STARVING THEM AND THEN INTRODUCE NEW FOOD SLOWLY, CONSISTANTLY & GOTS TO HAVE THE PATIENCE.. (PREFERABLY KRILL...)
