That one here is the pride of our window :D. That southamerican lady slipper orchid is very rare and very hard to care for. My mother did buy it almost 10 years ago. She flowers evry year but this year is spectacular, because she developed 2 risps. Normal is just one.

Very nice DA. My grandmother is into orchids too, she has a greenhouse built onto the side of her house for them. Great job keeping it so nicely in the window!

the window is always open so the temperature rises at day and drops per night. also she is placed in my bathroom, so i guess the humidity is good for her. i give her only rain water. also, its one of the rare orchid species who demand to stand always in the water. its funny because normally that kills orchids. in general i would say phragmipedium are strong flowers when you give them what they need. on the other hand they forgive not even the smallest mistake. do you have pics of your grandmas greenhouse?

Very nice specimen! I managed to cross pollinate one of my Paphs this Spring. Now to wait for a whole year to gets thousands of tiny seeds.
That's what I like about Phrags, you can't overwater them! You should try Mexipedium, exact opposite in terms of water and tiny flowers. They're really cool.

I would love to get my hands on a Mexipedium. Unfortunately i could never get one. :(

Good luck with your paph. hybride. And much patience. I heared they flower only 10 years after they "hatched" ha ha.

Love this Phrag! I have 3 and a slew of other orchids! She must be really happy if she gave you two risps this year! Love the pics!

If I can raise Sarracenia from seed to 3 inches tall in less than a year I think it would take more like 3-5 years to get a Paph seedling to flowering size. I'm used to slow growing plant, so this should be nothing too different. After all, I've had my Nepenthes glabrata and burbidgea for about 3 months and still haven't seen a pitcher...
