my picky jaguar pics

these are a couple pics of my jaguar. he/she mainly eats frozen beefheart and brine shrimp. he pretty much refuses pellets or flakes. i was also wondering why he's more black than some of the ones i see on here. is it because it's a female or because its a juvie? i've had him for almost 3 months and he's grown from about 1.5 to 3.5 in and has slowed down. is it normal for him to refuse pellets and slow down growing?? is he male or female?? i have no idea, but i'm thinking female since its more black.

Do their colors lighten over time? Because it's pretty dark and IMO it looks awesome.

He looks like he's just a subdominant fish in there, in other words there's another fish in there that is punking him, significantly slowing down his growth. I am pretty sure that that's the problem with his slow growth.

yeah. he's not the dominant fish in the tank so maybe it has something to do with it, but he doesn't get pushed around either... he just kinda does his own thing. the convict is like 2.5 inches. i just started this tank so waiting on these guys to grow some more.
