Hey all,

Lemme start with a little story... After 5 months without discus I finally decided to jump back in. I had visited the same LFS with a buddy of mine a number of times in the past month or so and there was a large Blue discus for sale. (i need help Id'ing him) They wanted $150 for him and week after week went by and he was still there. I knew this was a good fish, eating well and very personable. Finally about 2 weeks ago I was in there again and noticed that the labeling on the tanks had been mixed up. I offered $70 for the fish and was ready to take him home when I noticed a small pigeon blood with him. I decided to take them both and got a deal $100 for both! Not bad I thought. They acclimated well and are eating Hikari discus pellets everyday.

First question, The big guy is a good 5.5-6" in length probably adult, the other fish is only a third his size. Is it a good idea to mix discus of different sizes?

In regards to my first question- I had the itch to get another fish today and a store I trust got some nice fish in the other day. I browsed around and took home 1 2.5" discus. (also need help id'ing him) My two discus now dont seem to like him in there that much and my angel is chasing him too.

This is a 54G corner tank, heavily planted- other tankmates include a clown loach, whiptail pleco, 2 rummynose, 1 white cloud, 1 emperor tet, 3 large flying foxes, 2 wood shrimp, 1 silver hatchet and 2 pencilfish.

I have heard that 3 discus is a "no-no" esp. when one is mature and the others aren't. I will post some pics, if you can ID my fish that would be a huge help and also just any general input on where i should go next with this setup would be awsome!

set em up! lets see this baby! get a tank shot too.

Here's another pic, you can see the angel in there, these are 2 of the discus, Please id them, not sure what kinda angel it is- just slipped my mind. FYI the new discus is the one in the second pic from my original post need to id him too. Let me know if any of this is unclear and your thoughts and opinions. thanks!

Just looked at the second pic in this thread.
A cobalt--pretty blasted sure. I have one myself that sold to me directly by the breeder

Not a good idea to keep juvinille discus with adult discus and the large angel. The adult discus produces growth inhibiting hormons, with out 2-3 50% water changes weekly it will stunt the growth of the juvinilles. If the juvinilles are stressed at feeding time from the aggressive feeding of the angel and prehaps even the adult discus, they can stop eating even if food is available. Nit saying your set up will not work, just be aware of the prementioned conditions.

Very nice looking tank BTW.

The large Blue discus, I think now we've determined its a blue cobalt?, Was with this juvie pigeon blood when i bought him-they eat together and the angel is weary of the discus. Im just worried about my newest, 3rd fish I added yesterday-he is reclusive but is eating bloodworms at feeding times. As far as stunting growth from hormones in the water- I am doing 2 25% water changes a week- I will try to do more but it feel like the fish dont like it ;-). BTW, in my first post the first pic is of the adult (blue diamond i think) and the second pic is of the much smaller new addition. Someone said cobalt but I dont know what they look like. Thanks for your input and suggestions!

Yes, to confirm, from the pix it looks like 1 Cobalt, I Blue Diamond, and a pigeon blood.
:)

IMO the hormone thing Is a load of BS. One thing tho, that juvie may become stunted if it is gorwn up in the planted tank b/c of lack of water changes and food competition not hormones... So make sure he eats well and do 1-2 big WC a week to keep him growing well.
