Hi everyone. I have an idea, and I would love some feedback.

First of all, I have been doing some reading on planted tanks and such for a while. I want to do a couple set ups, one more intense than the other.

My 60 gallon houses currently a baby JD who has already grown an inch and 2 medium plecos. I currently have a red melon plant and a driftwood with anubias. Both pretty small. I am wanting to add more plants to the tank, and it has just normal fluorescent bulbs. The plants will all be low to medium light and low maintenance. The tank contains pool filter sand. The plants have been thriving thus far, so I'm hoping adding more will be fine.

My more advanced set up, if it will work, will be in my 25 gallon guppy/ghost shrimp tank. I would like to give the babies a place to hide among the bottom, so I was thinking about doing fluorite black sand (i like the look) and baby tears (nondwarf version if possible, as I do not currently have CO2 and would like to avoid it).
I was curious if this sounds like a plausible set up. I was also curious where one would find the baby tears at. I haven't looked at the petchain stores yet, and wasn't sure if they carried them.
Another question I have is ... how on earth do you clean a planted tank without damaging the plants or uprooting them and what about water changes? Just poor slowly so as to not disrupt the substrate?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions, comments, thoughts.

www.aquariumplants.com I've had good experiences with them.
When I clean my tank I just do a wc dont vac the sand(heavily planted bottom)
and add more water.
About once a year though I do clean the botton but usually i just brush the gravel vac glently over the planted areas being very careful.
I would also look into getting some type of liquid ferts maybe flourish excell

hope this helps!

forgot to add, maybe try some dwarf sword or something they look really cool and they can form a nice looking carpet under the right conditions

Great advice. What about the poop that may accumulate on the bottom? Do the plants just use it like fertilizer?

I have thought about excel for at least the guppy tank. :)

I will check out that site!

It'll break down, and I'd imagine most of it gets sucked up the filter but yeh if its on the botton the plants use it.

i wouldnt worry about the tweezers, I would buy them attached to driftwood it makes it easy, also what kind of lighting do you have? and a 15lb of flourite would work great

oh, well it says to plant them with tweezers but I guess not needed in a 25gal? LOL. I have ... just a basic fluorescent light that comes with a standard hood.

Do you think 1 bunch is good, or maybe I should order 2?
