my platinum orna

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
sorry to say but thats not a platinum ornate.

agreed.. Ornates (actually all bichirs) colours often depend on the substrate. If it is light, the fish has lighter colour, but if it is dark, the fish is darker.

You dont have a platinum, just a very light coloured Ornate, who looks great btw.

I have to agree, but still looks good, just wanna to mention that as far as I know platinum is a pure white or sometimes said a snow white, but the intensity of white is often not the same even in similar or different species of palmas,
this can be noticed started from the head to the tail, a good quality platinum would have a burst of snow white color, often shiny over the fins area and the tails as well.
There is another variant of platinum which would be in a creamy color rather than a pure white, which is usually what a platinum endli would be when mature.
A platinum bichir would also have a solid black eye
This is just my opinion,
cheers

thanks for the comment :D i 100% sure this is a platinum..the guy still only 10 cm big,and every plat baby except senegal, will have a marking on their body and will disappear when they grew up.and the most important thing is if i see the ornate from the top and side view the color base of the orna is metalic same color base with my plat senegal and my plat endlicheri and its totally different with wash out color in a bichir

To be honest, even a "light" Ornate I don't think is that pale. Might be a Platinum. Try putting him in a tank with some substrate and see what happens.

im still doubting it. like ben said put it under black gravel, if he changes, not platinum

That infact looks exactly like the JUVI PLAT ornate i saw in indonesia some time ago.

Ok guys time to JUMP in to this tread.

When it comes to ornate bichirs, their are two kinds of platinums. The one that looks like that in the pics and the pure white. Patterns on the body fades as it grows. In the market they call this as the low quality platinum ornate. Yes it confuses other people when they think about plat endli and plat sene and compare it to plat ornate.

Some plat ornate still shows the patterns. I actually prefer this type of plat ornate than the pure white ones.

Pretty special fish. How big? How long have you had it/growth rate?

Looking forward to more pics down the road of this fish!
