Ahh, im old school so from what i know ammonia should be present in the tank when cycling it. Before we will add one or two fish in the tank when cycling it. It helps the BB cause ammonia will be present and it will be eaten by the BB.I'm using old tank media from other tanks mainly. Other than that, I'm just letting it run.
It is filtered by a 40-gallon sump with a 1800 gph pump and a Fluval fx6 canister.

Ive seen other will cycle a empty tank but will drop shrimp or any kind if food in the tank even without fish. I think this also creates ammonia in the tank.
From what ive learned before, if there is no ammonia to support the BB then basiclly your cycling the water wrong. Idk how ppl do it now.
Or just add one bichir or gar in the tank?Yes, that too. I was thinking about buying some ammonia in a bottle. I believe Fritz sells that. That should give my bacteria something to eat.
