ok..so i got a pond (maybe you've seen it in the pond section) and now i need fish.

im getting 2 koi 4 sure.

some bluegills/sunfish

2 catfish (1 bullhead and 1 channel)

and im not sure what else.

if you can give me ideas as to which fish might do well in here, that would be great and i will do my best to aquire those fish (if their native or found in cali)

also i want to put tule perch in it so i can try to breed them, but when i went this past weekend to get tules 4 oddball, i couldnt find any, they all disapeared. so it'll have to wait till next spawning season, so i want fish that wont really hurass the sunnies ,perch and gills, and the koi. i know the cats will but im hoping to keep them well fed and they wont want any part of the smaller fish.

is it possible to have threadfin shad?

ok so this is what i have right now...(in the pond)

25 fathead minnows and one 8" bullhead. the water seems to stay in the high 80's but the bottom is around 80 so thats where all the fish hangout, i got a few floating plants 2day and they should multiply very quickly and give plenty of shade, plus i will be puttinglarge plants around the edges to shade it more, but nothing seems to help at high noon.

Wouldnt the threadfin get eaten? They are pretty much forage fish for the others you have there, no?

I think one (and only one) grass carp would be fun too. Then you get the koi-like movement and feeding behavior, but a native look. Just a thought

ir a couple common carp...idk. im thinking of getting carp instead of koi (even though their the same species) and threadfins would be food but i could prolly get enough of them that the other fish wouldnt be able to eat them all. plus the only one able to eat them are the catfish. and maybe if i get a bass or something.

when i used to have sunfish in my pond i would always find them the next day about 10-15 feet away from my pond all dried up and dead..i thought they were racoons maybe but i never found any bite or scratch marks in them..anybody know why that could have been?? but sunfish def. are cool when they are in a pond

Might sound silly, but putting an umbrella in the middle of the pond with a removeable base will work till your plants grow out. And if you get the right one it could even look good. It's alot easier than hanging a sun shade across it.
