Hey, my power has been out for about 8 hours now, and they're not sure if it will be back up in the morning, I am currently cycling my 55 gallon tank with black mollies, one of them had babies. Do you think they will make it? :( The only way I'm typing this is because my internet has a back up battery and I'm on my laptop.

Also, for the future, what is an inexpensive(because I know generators are expensive) way to have a back up for my heater and filter? FYI I have a canister filter.

Thanks,
Stew

I'd head to my nearest walmart and buy a battery powered aerator. But if it's still out tomorrow, I'd do a 50% w/c.........

The reason I said 50% was because you have common fish. I do weekly 50% w/c's on my 100G with two large oscars without any problems and just adding dechlorinator.......You don't want your ammonia level to climb.

x2 .. battery airpumps to keep the water circulated. I'de do a 25% every 6 hours or so until the power comes back up personally. I wouldn't worry about the heater. warmer water holds less O2.. so unless you have stock such as Discus that need to be maintained normally in warmer waters the fish shoudln't be in danger from a slight drop in temps to the mid 60's for awhile. I'de also avoid feeding them at this time as well to help keep your water quality as best as you can. Which is the killer of most fish in black-outs.

The power came back on while I was asleep and all of them are alive, thanks for the help!
