Checked in on my tank this morning and saw 2 patches of eggs on the gravel and 2 angry egg guards. Not sure if its the mom or the dad. Anyone know any info important to this? How soon do they hatch usually? Will the parent protect them or eat them? Im going to end up emptying out a tank to put them in once they hatch. Just hoping to get some wisdom from anyone whos bred Ps Before.

what size p's you have in what size tank??? pics?

if u weren't planning on keepeing them, just let them where they are n the other p's will eat them soon. if u want to keep them, u MUST remove them softly in another thank, with the same water they were born in. ise a simple sponge filter with a heater and feed them hatch shrimps, bloodworms, flakes. u'll loose maybe 1 third just by natural selection. once there will be too much difference in size between ur smallest n biggest babies, u must separate them again if u hope to keep them all. or the biggest ones wil eat the weaker ps.

for further details go search on the net, i red articles about people who raised hundreds of ps

yes raiseing baby reds is difficult... do what leg said about removing them softly... i just gravel vacume them out into a bucket and put the bucket in a good sized 70-80 gal tank... then what u need to do is get a brine shrimp hatchery going... look on the net they are pritty simple. then to feed the young p's i use a suringe. now be carefull because the brine shrimp is in salt. so try to just get the shrimp as much as possable.
now as some growth rates will be varried u need many tanks set up to seperate the bigger ones form the smaller one... after about 2 months of the brine shrimp they should be big enough to accecpt some blood worms.
hope this helps
