MY PURPOSED PLYWOOD BUILD - a plan and a few questions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
For the space I have, I can only go this big. 130 gallons.

Questions for the wonderfully talented people here:

1. Is this even worth my time and effort to buid such a small plywood tank? I.e., is buying a glass tank just more simple and cost effective at this size?

2. If a plywood tank of this size is feasible, is my purposed filtration enough?

3. I have basic to good powertool and basic carpentry skills - if feasible at this small size, how hard is it to build a tank like this?

4. Do plywood tanks last? Can they be built to last?

5. Will my wife allow this? :)

Thanks in advance.

yeah, that's what i was thinking. I already have the stand though, but I was thinking the same thing.

It just seems i'd be missing out on so much fun.. :(

I thought it made no sense.

I guess the DIY wood route is fairly costly when it's all said and done?

Plywood tanks get more and more cost-effective ad they get bigger. Unfortunately, for the size you want, it's probably going to be cheaper to go with glass.

Even if a plywood tank is going to cost you a similar amount (or slightly more) than a glass tank, you'll have the satisfaction of having built it. I guess it just depends on what your priorities are.

1. If it were me, I would build a plywood tank and use one of those waterproof membrane coatings. I believe a glass tank of this size would be cheaper to buy but the satisfaction you get from looking at some tht you built yourself is awesome (if it doesn't leak - lol)
You could also build a glass tank.

2. I'm not good with filter questions :screwy:

3. It should be rather simple if you have the tools and a garage/work shop.

4. I hope so, or Im in trouble.

5. Good luck with that one :WHOA:
