My motoro developed a quarter inch white spot on his back and it seems to have a little trace of red blood in the middle. On his underside there is a new red mark suggesting that their is some sort of injury/parasite that is hurting him. I got these two rays in late June and no problem until now. He seems to be slowing down and is hiding in the substrate and breathing slowly. Can I do anything?!

get him a tub of tank full of water no substrate and have the water tempature at 85degrees and get a INSTANT OCEAN Sea salt water tester so you know exactly how much salt you got in there. it should read 1.004 no more than that(use marine salt it desolve faster). you should see better results in 3 to 4days. Make sure it constantly eating things like silver sides, shrimp, night crawlers, and rosey reds. anything that can keep your stingray fat will do.(your stingray needs alot of food inorder to heal quickly.)

and good luck to you.

it is usually stressfull at times regardless when treating fishes, for the owner and espesaiclly the fish.... like and example for humans, i don't like get needle shots but it does make me feel better though, when i take them,. i have to take a flu shot next month but i don't want to!? even if i don't like it. because i am allergic to alot of dust. which can cause a seiouly bad virus in my system. It that can last for up to 10 months.:(

300 Gallon Tank

Two Motoro Stingrays
Two Angelfish
10 Discus

85 degrees

diet for all fish- Colorbits (rays eat too) and Brine Shrimp

25% water change and clean monthly

does this help? Thanks.

can we get pictures of them red spots?

I wish I could get you pics but don't have digital camera. On top there are two white spots - one bigger than the other and the one small one appeared in the last couple days. On the underside there appears to be a red mark (a little over 1/4" in width). Ideas?

You only do a 25% water change a month?!

What are your parameters like?

What size are your rays? Unless they are tiny as hell like 4" they need more and larger food items then colorbits and brine shrimp! Try feeding market shrimp and nightcralwers.

Well for your problem I will let the experts come in to help you out but for now I would do at least a 40% water change if not more and add salt at a dose of about a tablespoon per 5 gallons of water.

Will the salt add be detrimental to the other fish?

Sorry... but what do you mean by parameters?

Rays are 6" in width and I will get the crawlers and market shrimp immediately... but where can I get the crawlers?? When do you suggest I do water changes- monthly? twice a month? & % change of water each time?

Any advice would be helpful... does anyone have a guess what is wrong with the ray?
