I have two rays in a 100 gallon tank (2' by 4' floor space)
1 - female motoro (5 inch)
1 - ray sold to me as a female histrix but it is definately a male and has been identified as a humerousa (also 5 inch). I will call it a male humerousa
The last day or so I noticed some wearing of the motoro's slime coat. Not much however.
Today, I found the motoro buried in the gravel with the humerousa right over top of her and seemed to be biting at the top of the exposed disk. I chased him away and the motoro underneigth was breathing very hard. The humerousa would do another lap on the tank then right back on the motoro doing the same thing. After a while, the motoro was back out and everything seems fine.
Is this a sign of bag things to come? Is this a sign that they are incompatible tank mates?
I am wondering if I need to separate them - which means, most likely in my case, find a new owner for one of them.
