I have a Motoro Pup & he is eating Nightcrawlers. He devours them as soon as they go in the tank! It's getting quite expensive so I tried to go outside after it rained & collect some worms for food. He won't touch them even after not feeding him for a few days? Then i went out & bought some more Nightcrawlers & BAM. He them in about 20 seconds? has anyone else ever encountered this?

It can probably smell the pesticides and other toxic chemicals that are most likely in and around those worms.

Actually a freind brought that up, however the lawn has not been fertilized in the 9 years i have owned my house? I know it sounds odd, my FIre & Tire Track Eel eat the worms from the ground no problem!

well thats a good thing that there are no fertilizers in the lawn so what I would suggest is trying to take some of the worms that u have collected from outside and storing them in the dish that you buy your crawlers from maybe if they start to munch on the dirt in there it will change the smell of the worms from outside a little bit,but just be careful because there still could be some pesticides and fertilizers as worms do travel from lawn to lawn.

Good idea, I will have to try that. Yeah never thought about the worms travelling. I live in the city also so the lots are only 50' wide. So i bet the worms have been through half my block!

Rays can be discriminating gourmet eaters, they act as if they have a sense of taste. (do they?) They will show preferences for certain types of food.
:)

Believe it or not different worms taste different! and also have different textures. Canadian nightcrawlers Vs red wigglers for instance, one has a much tougher skin.
:)
Farm raised worms are usually fed a corn (type) diet which makes them "sweeter", where your garden worms are eating , well, not corn; and they probably still have a gut full of earth, not as yummy as corn!
