my 22 rbp 3-4" wont eat a 1" convict. my 20g breeder tank pair of convicts just finished spawning, so i decided to go to my LFS to get 4 small convicts to test it out. i threw one of the test fish in my 180g and at first the 15 exodons chased it around, and then left it alone. a moment later my 22ps joined in and gave up instantly. my Ps seem to be lazy they are use getting dead foods and wont give chase for long.

i need my Ps to eat the test convicts, if they dont my breeder tank and grow out tank will be in vain.

any advice, to make my Ps more aggressive to enough to chase down their food?

I say just dont feed them convicts then... So you made a mistake with the convicts, no big deal. Just get rid of them and start something else in the 40. Not the end of the world. No one here will think any less of you if your Ps eat dead or prepared food or pellets... I for one will think much higher of you if you never feed them live food for the rest of their lives...

:iagree:

yea i know its better for them, but i also enjoy watching them chase their food around instead of each other. and i already invested a lot of time and money in getting the convicts and breeding them plus equipment. if they dont eat them i will have 100+ convict and convict fry on my hands that will be useless which will have to be flushed down the drain, and 2 empty tanks that will have no use anymore.

I wasn't referring to the actually breeding process I meant the time and money invested in setting everything up and getting all the equipment that would be rendered useless if they don't eat the test convicts.

Let them get hungry, i'd bet they'll work a little harder if they are hungry...

That might work but I am more concerned if they get hungry they might turn on one another since it would be a much larger meal to feast on each other.

swap the convicts out for guppy's or any really easy fish to breed. how long have you had the piranhas because sometimes you need to wait awhile so they acclimate and maybe you should wait til theyre very hungry to feed i mean they arent picky predators

baby convicts are really fast. JP had a school of baby convicts in his 180 with his big rhom, and the rhom had a hard time catching them. Sometimes it just takes time.

I hate sounding like a broken record but, P's aren't the fearsome killers that devour anything near them that people think they are. They'll probably have fun chasing it around anyway.
