Hey guys,

I have a small Red Devil, about 2.5-3" long. He is in his own tank and really seems to be a sissy.

He is a funny little guy and has so far 3 times swam up the waterfall and into the filter body. He doesn't know how to get back out, so after i search the floor around the tank for his dead body, and luckily discover him later in the filter, i just pop him back into the tank and he hides under his rock for a few minutes.

How old do the RD have to be before they start to be super aggressive?

I've noticed just recently that his jaw has really started to develope. He is looking more and more like a battle fish every day.

He was in my big 125g for about a month, where he liked to test out his battling skills with my juvie jewel cichlid. Sort of funny as they would make faces at each other and flare but never bite, and when one of my full grown cichlids would go close they would both boogy out of there and hide in a cave together.

He has been in my 20L for about 2 months by himself. I would like to try to put a chinese algae eater in there to help clean up a bit, but i'm not sure how that'll go. He seems pretty docile. I've heard about the RD's attacking when you put your hand in there but he just hides. He is very busy digging and rearanging his tank all the time though.

He should get some personality at aound 5". Perhaps less. They wont turn into real glass bangers for quite a bit. Maybe 7-8" mark. Chuck him in with the big fella's to bring his aggression out.

:iagree: also i would like to see some pics, id enjoy him while you can soon you may no be able to house him with anything

I wouldn't worry about it to much, sooner or later, he will start acting like what he is. Until then, enjoy being able to have tank mates with him.....J/K he should be fine with larger fish as soon as he is to be to be eaten by them. Well, hopefully.

Agreed, at his small size it's perfectly normal for him to be a "sissy". Of the two Midas I've had, one developed aggression at 3" and the other at 4". Adding some fast-moving dithers like zebra danios or giant danios may boost his confidence and encourage him to get out and about. It'll happen with time, for sure!

They aren't always an aggresive species, there are exceptions to the rule. Mine isen't mcuh aggresive at all, my severum is more ill tempered but I don't care, I like him all the same. Your's personality may change once sexual maturity sets in.
