I love these beautiful fish! You have made me want another 1 now! Haha don't want to hijack the thread but how long do you estimate I could keep 1 in a 500-600 gallon? Yours is very nice by the way, I like them with a longer head than the stubby looking ones, good luck with him, only thing I advise is never underestimate what they can fit in their mouth

Assuming an 8'x4' footprint, probably a year, two if pushing it much IMHO.
I was planning more of a 4'x10' footprint but if its going to outgrow it that fast I guess I will have to just keep wanting 1

That's about the footprint of the tank one of my lfs keeps their rtc in. His name is moby and they've had him 30 years...

I think he can get more than 1-2 years out of an 8'x4' footprint.
you could keep a redtail in a 200 or 300 gallon tank, but that dosent mean its okay, there is a huge diffrence between survive and thrive and lets be honest, we all know red tails dont belong in a tank, i think that if you wanna keep a red tail you should get it into a pond after the 18"-20" mark because after that anyother fish you try to keep it with will become food sooner or later
