My Red terror female is sick... :(

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Besides the other Festae, what else is in the tank? How sure are you that it wasn't attacked? A lot of times fish that stay at the surface with visible signs of injuries are being attacked by something in the tank. The stressed fish will stay at the surface to avoid the fish attacking it. Her tail looks like it was nipped a few times by another fish. It could be the other Festae. They are at the size where aggression can increase and become deadly. There are some diseases that can cause fins to deteriorate but this looks like signs of a fight to me. How long did it take the fins to look this way? Was it suddenly or gradual?

It's diffacult to tell for sure. The fish looks stressed/scared and could be being harassed by tank mates. Festae are notoriously hard on one another when young and a high mortality rate is very common in tanks housing several fish. I would seperate her and see if she comes around once she has been seperated from her tank mates.

Thanks you all.
She and the other festae are alone in the tank. There is no other tank mates.
I'm sure that she wasn't attacked. The other festae is fear her, even tho they start to getting along well.
I bought her with an small tear tail, At first it started to heal nicely but then it started to get worse and it seems like decay.
She had not eaten for several days now.
Two days ago, I separated her into a different tank and she is alone in this tank (in the second video she is in the other tank alone) but it did not help at all and the situation only gets worse...
Her stool is also abnormal, even though I did not see stool at all for a few days now (Because she did not eat anything).
I tried to use Metronidazole but Unsuccessfully. It didn't help..
She seems to have an internal parasite, and I do not know what to do more to help her..
Thanks again :(

Let me first say that I'm no expert. But I believe that you can use Epsom salt for internal parasites. You can google this for more info or maybe someone else has more experience that I do.

Good luck.

festae are notorious imo for this. it seems when they get stressed badly this can happen. my festae were doing the same exact thing just kind of sitting around or hiding with white poop. it is an internal parasite and i used jungle parasite clear and kent's garlic extreme and it seemed to fix my problem. they were eating like hogs a week or so after treatment, banging the glass for food. jungle parasite clear tablets is what i used, i dosed exactly as the directions stated and did not feed any food for the duration of the treatment. i did a 30% water change and had to dose a second time, as per the directions on the box. after that i bought some "kent's garlic extreme" basicly all it is was just garlic oil crushed and i used that as recommended by the directions on the bottle. I started off mixing the garlic extreme with thawed frozen mysis shrimp, and when i finally saw them eating some of those i stopped feeding for a day, then the following day i fed them their normal sinking and floating hikari pellets soaked in the garlic extreme for about a week after the mysis shrimp, and finally i had glass bangers again, and normal solid pink poops. i hope this helps and i am sorry to say that when ever my festae become overly stressed (this time it was me trying to add a big male for breeding) they seem to develop these same symptoms.

the white stringy poop you see in that video is caused by internal parasites.

I learned not to medicate my tanks every time something seems wrong because imo it can cause way more harm than good. Sure it can work, but for inexperienced fish keepers the result can be disastrous, and I believe many fish actually die faster due to chemical treatments. i.e. fish being too weak and being killed or severely stressed by a strong medication.

Recently I had a clown loach infested with internal parasites, she was severely washed-out and emaciated (even though she tried to eat she seemed to loose weight and color) and all of the other loaches almost doubled her in size (they were all bought at around the same time, same size). The only thing I used was great water quality and NLS thera+, a great quality food with natural anti-parasitic properties, and she healed completely. She's now growing happily with her friends and gained all her color back, no medication whatsoever.
