My Rheoheros lentiginosus preying on snails

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo

So... I had a population of scuds and bladder snails building up, and when I added my R. lentiginosus to their tank I had hoped there were enough snail eggs, etc. for there to be an explosion of population and there would be a continuous supply of prey for the cichlids... I was wrong.

I did add three mystery snails along the way, and they were fine. The R. lentiginosus did not care about them at all. Yay! I figured I would have at least until the cichlids grew older for them to start eating the snails. In the meantime, they could lay eggs above the waterline and provide the cichlids with a bunch of baby snails every once in a while.

Today I added 24 more mystery snails to the tank. Welp, now the R. lentiginosus decided they were actually interested in the mystery snails. XD

All this was my attempt at creating a more natural environment for the R. lentiginosus, including natural-ish (lol) prey.

Nope. Just have to stick to pellets for now. I don't have any more space in the apartment to grow prey for the R. lentiginosus separately.
